How it works

Affinity, cards, chat. In that order.

01

Launch your bottle

A label, 50 questions about who you are and what you’re looking for, and a short message. About 12 minutes.

02

Let it float

We don’t notify you of anything. While you live your life, your bottle looks for someone who fits you.

How is the affinity % calculated?

We compare your 50 answers one by one. On scales, the closer you are, the higher the affinity; elsewhere, matching counts. Each question weighs 1, 2 or 3 and the % is the weighted average. If either of you marked a question as a deal-breaker and you sit at opposite poles, the total drops a lot. You need 20 shared questions to get a %. From 90 %, you’re a super match.

We never show your answers: only the total % and by topic. Politics and spirituality count in the total but are never broken down.

✦ Difference is beautiful too

A lower % isn’t a no. Thinking differently about some things adds up: you show each other new worlds.

The cards

Then come the cards: 28 imaginative questions, you answer 10. If you both accept, you read each other’s one by one and decide if you connect. With half or more, you can approve. If you both approve, the chat opens. If not, it’s paused, no alerts, no drama.

Bottle bumps

Every now and then, the tide brings two compatible bottles within 20 km of each other and they bump. It happens at random and, at most, once a day. You’ll see it on your map, and that bottle will be highlighted at the top of Affinity for a week. It doesn’t change your %: it just puts you in the same patch of sea. And once a week you can send your bottle by plane to another ocean at random: the voyage starts again from there.
